Informational Meeting about Lake West Christian Academy and Common Core – Sunrise Beach, MO
July 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Lake West Christian Academy, LWCA, has scheduled an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the Academy in Sunrise Beach.
This is an opportunity to gain knowledge about the K-4 through 12th grade Academy. “LWCA offers Lake Area students a Christ centered education with academic excellence and we exist for the purpose of training students academically, spiritually, physically, and socially in a Christ-honoring manner, LWCA Board President Dr. Bill Barber said. “The goal at the Academy is to stress excellence in all areas through Christ-centered instruction and example.” The curriculum is structured in biblical context and emphasizes high academic standards with strong emphasis in language arts, reading, math, patriotism, and self-discipline.
Common core lecture
Along with the Academy presentation, guest speaker Stacy Shore will speak on the forced implementation of the Common Core State Standards Curriculum, CCSS, in our public school system. Shore is one of thousands of Missouri moms who are diligently working to educate people about the CCSS from Missouri schools. According to Shore, the CCSS are being sold as a state led initiative that will bring quality education standards to our schools. “Nothing could be further from the truth,” Shore said. “CCSS is an illegal overreach by the US Department of Education into our local education. These standards are untested, unproven and unsupported, both academically and fiscally. “Our children are not common core,” Shore warned.
This is the second in a series of meetings that will be offered around the Lake by the Academy. There was an excellent turnout at the first meeting on Monday, June 30 and several attendees remarked that they were acutely unaware of the detrimental effects the CCSS could have on Missouri students.
Community members, pastors, private and public school parents, parents who are homeschooling and those who are considering alternative education are encouraged to attend this informative meeting.
Additionally, the Academy is accepting enrollment for K4 through 12th grade students. Information will be provided at this meeting and enrollment packets may be obtained 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Academy.
Employment applications are being accepted for teachers, a school bus driver, and a janitor. LWCA leadership considers Christian teachers to be the key in Christian education, therefore, all teachers must be committed Christians, well qualified to teach, and they must possess a genuine love for children.
The Academy is located at 17178 N. State Highway 5 in Sunrise Beach. For information call 573 374-1500.
